Feb 20, 2018

PRISTINA, Kosovo — Kosovo is celebrating 10 years of independence from Serbia in two-day festivities that started Saturday amid reminders of the obstacles to the country's full acceptance. President Hashim Thaci said during a panel at the Munich Security Conference that his country's decade-long history was "a story of success," but he lamented the European Union's lack of unity over Kosovo's status as a membership candidate. Italy's ex-premier Berlusconi campaigns against populism

Feb 20, 2018

ROME — Media mogul Silvio Berlusconi jumped into politics a quarter-century ago vowing to save Italy from the communists. Now he's waging a crusade to keep Italian populists out of the government. To be clear, the 81-year-old Berlusconi cannot seek his fourth premiership or even run for a seat in Parliament in Italy's March 4 election due to a tax fraud conviction. But he won't let himself be stopped by that — nor by years of sex scandals or a long list of criminal trials. And he is ignoring the toll that time has taken on his body, which has...

VAR help can't prevent Lazio from 2nd straight defeat

Feb 20, 2018

ROME — Even with help from the video assistant referee, Lazio lost for the second straight week in Serie A. Diego Laxalt leaped above Lazio defender Patric to score with a bouncing header in injury time as Genoa won 2-1 at the Stadio Olimpico. Ten minutes earlier, Laxalt thought he had already scored the go-ahead goal but the score was waived off after video replays showed the Genoa midfielder used his hand to control the ball before scoring. The decision came eight days after Patrick Cutrone controversially scored in AC Milan's 2-1 win over Lazio after the VAR failed to...

BRUSSELS — Movie star Angelina Jolie says she and NATO's chief have agreed on ways to help the military alliance better combat the use of sexual violence against women and children in conflict zones. Speaking after a meeting with NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg in Brussels, she said: "We are going to focus on training, reporting, monitoring and awareness as a way of ending impunity." Jolie, a special envoy for the...
